Wednesday, 27 March 2019

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Terens Quick was received, today, by the Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, together with the Presidential Commissioner of Cyprus, Fotis Fotiou, and Egypt’s Minister of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs, Nabila Makram, who were in Melbourne for the “NOSTOS III” Programme.

Victoria’s Premier referred, inter alia, to the desire on the part of the australian side, in 2021 when the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 will be celebrated, for the State of Victoria to organise events befitting this great historic anniversary. In this context, he expressed the State’s interest in hosting a temporary exhibit of antiquities and historical artifacts from Greek museums.

Mr Quick thanked Mr Daniels and assured him that he will brief the Greek Prime Minister, as well as the competent Ministers, in this regard. It should be mentioned that important artifacts from the Benaki Museum are currently on loan to the Melbourne Museum.

The Minister of Health of the Government of Victoria, Jenny Mikakos, who is of Greek descent, was also present during the meeting, as were the ambassadors of the three countries in Australia.
