Today, in Paris, Greece was elected by a landslide to the UNESCO Hague Convention of 1954 (second Protocol) Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. The Committee holds significant geopolitical importance and embodies universal cultural attributes.
Greece was elected first, securing 79 of 85 valid votes cast by States Parties to the Convention. The other five elected members are Azerbaijan, Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jordan, and Iran.
