Our relationship with Egypt is deep and has developed strategic characteristics.
Today, we discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt issues pertaining to the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai. We agreed to work in the immediate future towards safeguarding the rights of the Monastery, as well as its legal status and personality.
The intention of Egypt and Greece is to proceed on the basis of the long-standing tradition and the already established status of an emblematic Monastery for its Greek Orthodox religious character.
