Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement upon his arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg, 20.10.2025)

Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement upon his arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg, 20.10.2025)

The agenda of today’s EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting is linked to the latest geopolitical developments, in the midst of the ongoing peace process in Gaza and developments regarding Ukraine.

In Gaza, we are focused on the implementation of the Peace Plan, so that the process towards sustainable peace advances smoothly to enter its second phase.

I will brief my counterparts on Greece’s participation in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, as well as on the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit to Athens, only a few hours after the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, concerning the future of the peace process. Greece is ready to contribute both to Gaza’s reconstruction and to the delivery of humanitarian aid. It is extremely important that we all work systematically to achieve sustainable peace.

Regarding Ukraine, Greece remains present and stands in solidarity with Ukraine. We support any peace initiative that can terminate this long and brutal war in Europe. Greece is ready to contribute both to humanitarian efforts and to reconstruction.

At the same time, this is an era of connections, an era of connectivity and broader regional cooperation. Europe must strengthen its footprint. For this reason, our agenda includes cooperation with the Eastern Partnership, the Black Sea region, and Central Asia to strengthen Europe’s geopolitical footprint and to involve more partners.

Within the framework of the Foreign Affairs Council, I will also have the opportunity to meet with Ministers from non-EU countries, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Moldova, Türkiye, and Ukraine.

This is a time for synthesis. It is a time to approach the future with vision. Divisions can only lead to disastrous results.

Thank you.
