Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis to attend the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (New York, 22-26.09.2025)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, will travel to New York on Sunday, September 21, to participate in the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, which will take place from September 22 to 26.

Mr. Gerapetritis' schedule includes numerous high-level meetings and contacts with Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Central and Latin America.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ discussions will focus on the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, developments in Sub-Saharan Africa, and modern global challenges.

Mr. Gerapetritis will participate in trilateral meetings of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt, Greece-Cyprus-Jordan and Greece-Cyprus-Syria. Moreover, he will participate in the Greece-Romania-Bulgaria-Croatia quadrilateral cooperation scheme.

Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend a Transatlantic Dinner hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Mr. Gerapetritis will also participate in the High-level Meeting to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, as well as in the International Conference on the Two-State Solution, co-organized by France and Saudi Arabia. 

Under Greece’s Presidency for 2025, Mr. Gerapetritis will chair the Ministerial Meeting of the Ancient Civilizations Forum.  

Greece is a member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, and the priorities of its tenure include the peaceful resolution of disputes, respect for International Law, the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda, climate change and security, children in armed conflicts, and maritime security.

In this context, the Minister will address the Security Council’s emergency session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, as well as the UN Security Council session on relations between the UN and the League of Arab States, under the Presidency of the Republic of Korea.
