Presentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ new Global Media Center digital platform (Athens, 13.02.2026)

The official presentation of the digital project “Global Media Center” (GMC) was held today at the “Giannos Kranidiotis” Amphitheatre. The GMC platform constitutes one of the four sub-projects of the action “Digital Transformation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the Public Investment Program, with the Information Society S.A. acting as the contracting authority. It is an innovative digital tool designed to support the Ministry’s needs in managing and analyzing international current affairs.

The event was addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yiannis Loverdos, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Teresa-Paraskevi Angelatou. Members of Diplomatic Missions accredited to Greece and representatives of public authorities also attended.

The GMC platform is emerging as a modern instrument of “smart diplomacy,” responding to the need for systematic and reliable monitoring of global media coverage through the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications.
As underlined during the presentation, the project represents a decisive step in advancing the digital era of Public Diplomacy and is fully aligned with the Strategic Plan for Public Diplomacy 2026-2030 currently being developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Through the implementation of the project, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acquires the capacity to gain in-depth insight into how Greece’s image is perceived internationally, enabling data-driven decision-making based on global media analysis. Furthermore, the GMC platform facilitates the formulation and swift adjustment of communication strategies, adding significant value to countering disinformation and managing communication crises in real time.

The importance of the platform is further enhanced in view of Greece’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2027, as it will be used to map the European media landscape and to support the effective promotion of the priorities of Greece’s Presidency.

The implementation of the project commenced on January 30, 2024 and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. The end-users of the platform will be all personnel members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who are involved in the management of international current affairs.
