I express my deepest sorrow for the loss of the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, Anastasios.
The Archbishop of Albania was a brilliant spiritual leader, an intellectual Hierarch, one of the most prominent and respected figures of the Orthodox Church.
He developed a rich missionary and academic work and was distinguished for substantially contributing to interreligious dialogue and promoting initiatives aimed at the peaceful coexistence of religions and peoples.
As Archbishop of Albania for 33 years, he carried out, despite the difficulties, an admirable, selfless ecclesiastical and social work and he developed a multifaceted pastoral activity.
Greece will never forget his contribution.
May he rest in peace.
