The Note Verbal of the Arab Republic of Egypt dated July 8, 2025, which leaked today during the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs' visit to Athens, refers to the Maritime Spatial Planning that Greece published and depicted on a map for the first time on 16.04.2025.
This is an expected reaction, through standard diplomatic correspondence, from a neighboring state with which the delimitation of maritime zones is pending, as is the case with Egypt.
This is also explicitly displayed on the map, namely that in the areas where there has been no bilateral delimitation, the outer potential limits are indicated, in accordance with the median line.
This was also stated by the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs to his Egyptian counterpart during their meeting today.
The latter confirmed, as explicitly stated in the Note Verbale, that Egypt's intention is for these issues to constitute a subject of cooperation and consultation within the framework of the excellent relations between the two countries and with a view to further strengthening them.
The two sides commended the EEZ delimitation agreement, which was signed exactly five years ago, and reiterated their commitment to UNCLOS with regard to their future cooperation.
