Study Visit of the 29th Promotion of Candidate Embassy Attachés to Geneva (03-06.02.2025)

The 29th Promotion of Candidate Embassy Attachés of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy (HDA) paid a four-day study visit to Geneva from 3 to 6 February 2025. They were accompanied by the HDA Director, Ambassador Michalis Diamessis and the Director of Studies, First Counselor Michail Angelopoulos.

The Candidate Embassy Attachés paid a visit to the Permanent Mission of Greece in Geneva where Ambassador Ioannis Ghikas and diplomats of the Mission informed them about the role of the Mission and its activities. They also held a meeting with officials at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The HDA visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), where they toured the facilities and engaged in discussions with Professor Tsesmelis on the latest scientific developments. Further meetings were held with officials at the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), focusing on contemporary humanitarian challenges.

The key issues of global health, migration flows, and labor rights, were also explored through meetings with representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Apart from the visits to institutions, the programme included a meeting with the Consul General of Greece in Geneva, Mr.Alexandros Yennimatas, followed by a guided tour at the city’s historic centre. The itinerary featured visits to the Reformation Wall, the Palais Anna et Jean-Gabriel Eynard  – the Town House of the renowned Philhellene Jean-Gabriel Eynard – and the International Museum of the Reformation.

The study visit concluded with a visit to the Palais des Nations, where Candidate Attachés were informed on the activities of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and received a guided tour at the UN Museum Geneva and the UN headquarters in Geneva.
