Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yiannis Loverdos visited Istanbul from August 31st to September 2nd, 2025, on the occasion of the beginning of the new Ecclesiastical Year.
On Monday, September 1st, Mr Loverdos attended the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Church of St George, presided over by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Then he was received by His All-Holiness, to whom he reiterated the Greek state's appreciation and interest in his initiatives and actions for the preservation of the natural environment, making special reference to the ecological sensitivity that he has consistently demonstrated. He also reaffirmed the unwavering support and ongoing solidarity of the Greek government for the important work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister had the opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives of the Association for the Support of the Greek Community Foundations regarding the issues that concern them. Additionally, he had a productive meeting with the Education Coordinator.
