Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yiannis Loverdos, visited Mount Athos from 4 to 6 August 2025, in the framework of his responsibilities for Religious and Ecclesiastical Affairs.
On Monday, 4 August, the Holy Community of Mount Athos welcomed the Deputy Minister at the Holy Temple of Protaton in Karyes. During the meeting, Mr. Loverdos warmly thanked the members of the Holy Superintendence for their warm welcome and hospitality. Ηe reiterated the government's firm commitment to support the millennia-old cultural and spiritual contribution of the Athonite state, emphasizing its contribution to the promotion of the Orthodox tradition.
He then visited the Holy Monasteries of Megisti Lavra and Karakallou.
The following day, the Deputy Minister visited the Holy Monasteries of Stavronikita, Pantokratoros, Simonopetra, Xenophontos, as well as the Ηoly Skete of Prophet Elijah.
The pilgrimage ended on Wednesday, August 6, with the Deputy Minister's visit to the Holy Monasteries of Vatopedi and Dochiariou.
