Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas will be in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, 13 April 2011, to participate in the first meeting of the international Contact Group on Libya.
The decision to set up the Contact Group on Libya was taken at the international London Conference on Libya, on 29 March. The first meeting will be co-chaired by Qatar and the UK, with the United Nations, the Foreign Ministers of 21 countries, and representatives of international and regional organizations participating.
Greece’s participation in the Contact Group points up the active and balanced role it is playing in the Libya crisis, with full respect for international legality and UN Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973. Greece argues that the international community’s priority must continue to be the provision of humanitarian aid to the Libyan people, protection of civilians and initiation of a political process for resolving the crisis.
