Just five years after the end of the Second World War, in 1950, Robert Schuman, in his historic Declaration of May 9, laid the foundations for European integration.
Today, 76 years after the Schuman Declaration, its fundamental lessons of cooperation, peace and solidarity remain more relevant than ever.
At a time of intense geopolitical uncertainty and instability, with war having returned to the European continent, the 27 Member States of the Union must once again demonstrate that cooperation among nations can prevail over conflict and division. We must continue to work to uphold the values of democracy, freedom and human dignity.
Greece, as one of the oldest Member States of the European Union, actively supports efforts towards further development, enlargement, strategic autonomy and competitiveness of the European Union, and remains firmly committed to ensuring that this turning point in world history will always stand as a symbol of peace, solidarity and unity.
