Today marks 4 years since the Russian attack on Ukraine, which led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. It is important today to unite our voices against aggression, against any form of revisionism. To join our forces for peace in the region, so that we can finally have positive results in Ukraine.
Today I was in Geneva, at the 61st Session of the Human Rights Council. I had the opportunity to address the Assembly, as well as to present Greece's National Strategy on the issue of prevention against child violence and child-friendly justice. The presentation was warmly received by a significant audience of member states of the United Nations General Assembly, officials of the Organization, as well as the Council of Europe.
Greece, as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council, is undertaking a series of initiatives, including in its capacity as Chair of the Committee on the Protection of Children in Armed Conflict, so that children are not the victims of human violence, human aggression, human greed.
I had the opportunity to speak with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to express Greece’s belief in international multilateralism. International organizations should have an active presence, especially in times of very major crises that plague the planet: armed conflicts, the climate crisis, all those conditions that make today's reality grim.
I also had the opportunity to talk with the Lebanese Foreign Minister and exchange views on peace and stability in the region. Greece, a supporter of Lebanon, has provided significant, real assistance to the Lebanese state, so that it can face the next day with resilience.
Greece is present in the developments in the Middle East. Lebanon is a neighboring country of the European Union. We will be present both in reconstruction and, of course, in all humanitarian aid.
From Geneva we will travel to the United States, where I will have the opportunity to meet the Secretary of State of the United States, in a critical context for the international reality, where processes, efforts for peace are underway on all fronts. We will have the opportunity to exchange views. Greece is at the forefront of all international initiatives and will continue to pursue its active foreign policy.
