We are meeting today at the Foreign Affairs Council to discuss a significant and critical agenda.
We will begin with Armenia and its relations with the European Union. Greece welcomes the peace process, which is currently underway in the South Caucasus. Thanks to Greece’s efforts, Armenia is today invited to the Foreign Affairs Council to present its positions for sustainable peace in the wider region. I have spoken at length with the Armenian Foreign Minister, and I intend to visit the country in the very near future. Today, I will have the opportunity to meet with both the Armenian and the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers.
In contrast, developments are not equally encouraging on other fronts, both regional and international. Particularly in Ukraine, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa, an even more intensive effort for sustainable peace is required.
Greece, thanks to its principled and value-driven foreign policy, has acquired significant international diplomatic capital, which it utilizes in international fora, while also being a reliable interlocutor for all global and regional players. With this diplomatic capital, prudence, and confidence, we forge bridges of friendship in our wider region for the present and the future.
