Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement upon arrival at the Meeting of the NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Brussels, 03.12.2025)

The Meeting of the NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs is taking place at an extremely critical moment for the future of the Alliance and for peace worldwide. We must preserve the Alliance’s unity and cohesion, and assess the measures that will lead to substantially enhanced defense capabilities without undermining the cohesion of our defense.

The Ministerial Meeting takes place amid the discussions on Ukraine. We should all understand that we need to stand with Ukraine. Sovereignty is non-negotiable. Aggression and revisionism have no place in the contemporary world. They are incompatible with International Law.

I would like to put particular emphasis on the issue of the Southern Neighborhood. Greece was among the countries at the forefront of the action plan for the Southern Neighborhood. We are in a very sensitive region. North Africa, the Middle East and the Sahel region are critically important for peace and prosperity in the region. We must exhaust every available option to secure calm in the region. We should all be aware that today we are setting the precedents for the future.

Greece, being at the core of NATO, the European Union and the OSCE, and as a member of the UN Security Council, consistently stands for international multilateralism and International Law, making no concessions with regard to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
