The inaugural round of the Greece-India Maritime Dialogue was held in Athens on the 11th of December, 2025. The Dialogue further enhances the existing cooperation in maritime affairs within the framework of the Greece-India Strategic Partnership established in 2023.
The inaugural round was opened with an address by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou. The Greek Delegation was co-chaired by Ambassador Maria Theofili, Head of the Task Force for the United Nations Security Council and Ambassador Andreas Fryganas, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Indian Delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and Security International Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas of common interest, such as maritime security, cooperation in international fora, the blue economy, connectivity, port development, innovation, and maritime tourism.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation and to adhering to international law - in particular UNCLOS. They also exchanged expertise, guided by their common vision of keeping oceans and seas safe, free, and open, whether in the Indo-Pacific or the Eastern Mediterranean. From 8 to 10 December, the Indian delegation also had the opportunity to visit sites of naval and maritime strategic interest.
This first Dialogue marks an important milestone in the deepening of the strategic relationship between Greece and India, reflecting a mutual determination to further strengthen cooperation in the maritime domain and beyond. The two sides agreed to hold the next round of the Dialogue in New Delhi.
