Deputy FM Kourkoulas meets with his Chilean counterpart (Thursday, 24 January 2013)

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas met on the margins of the EU-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Summit, in Santiago, Chile, with Chilean Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Alfonso Silva.

During their meeting, they ascertained the excellent level of the relations between the two countries, in which there is significant room for deepening, particularly in the economic sector.

Mr. Kourkoulas briefed his counterpart on the measures that have been adopted by Greece and the EU to put Greece on track towards a definitive exit from the crisis.

Mr. Silva conveyed the friendly sentiments of his people for Greece and his optimism that Greece will emerge from the crisis.

Mr. Silva responded positively to Mr. Kourkoulas’s interest in organizing a business mission from Greece to Chile, offering the assistance of his Ministry.

They discussed and agreed on further cooperation on cultural tourism and cultural and educational exchanges, as well as on the upgrading of political consultations between the two ministries via a flexible, non-bureaucratic platform.

They also discussed the opportunities for further cooperation in the shipping sector, with the Chilean Deputy FM showing interest in the transference of know-how on tourism development issues.
