Launching of the new digital platform of the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives (YDIA)

Launching of the new digital platform of the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives (YDIA)

As of Monday 21 September 2026, the new digital platform of the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives (YDIA) will be available to researchers both at the Reading Room of YDIA and online at arxeio.mfa.gr.

Through the new platform, researchers will be able to consult the catalogues of the declassified and released archival material of YDIA through arxeio.mfa.gr, without having to register on the platform. Access to all other features will require the creation of a personal account. Each researcher will only need to create a personal account once, and the account will remain valid without the need for renewal for all subsequent research conducted on archival material available online, as well as for research requests concerning material available at the Reading Room of YDIA.

Specifically, after creating a personal account, researchers will be able to:

  • access through the internet digitized archival material available online and save or print pages from it;
  • submit a request for access to, or renewal of access to, archival material that is not available online but only at the Reading Room of YDIA, whether digitized or not, in accordance with the established procedure;
  • receive a response to their request for access to material available exclusively at the Reading Room of YDIA;
  • access, at the Reading Room of YDIA, digitized material that is not available online, provided that the relevant authorization has been granted;
  • request/order the subfiles they wish to study at the Reading Room of YDIA, after obtaining authorization to conduct research, and receive the relevant response. This procedure will be carried out exclusively through the new platform;
  • save copies of documents or pages of documents from subfiles to which they have access at the Reading Room of YDIA, in accordance with the applicable Regulation, and access these copies online through their personal account.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Upon the launch of the new platform, the previous application, available at the same web address, will cease to operate, and researchers’ previous login credentials will no longer be valid. Users of the platform are therefore required to create a new personal account.

2. Researchers who hold a valid permit to conduct research on archival material that is not available online, are also required to create a personal account (where possible before their first visit to the Reading Room of YDIA). Their existing permit to conduct research will be entered into the system during their first visit to the Reading Room of YDIA.

3. Any new request to conduct research on archival material that is not available online requires the creation of a personal account. The request must be submitted exclusively through the platform. Researchers should complete the Research Request form by following the links “My Profile” > “User Requests” > “Research Request.”
