The Alternate Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Sia Anagnostopoulou, received the Finnish Ambassador to Athens at her office this morning, at his request.
During the meeting there was a discussion of bilateral political relations and ways to improve those relations, as well as of matters concerning the functioning of the European Union and the Eurozone. Specifically, it was noted that there has been an increase in immigration of young, trained Greeks to Finland, particularly in the medical professions.
The Finnish Ambassador underscored the positive example in innovation at a well-known Finnish telecommunications company and criticized the negative stereotypes being propagated with regard to Greece.
Ms. Anagnostopoulou asked for the Ambassador’s support in the effort to improve Greek-Finnish bilateral relations, which were strained recently over the Greek debt issue.
Finally, Ms. Anagnostopoulou referred to issues concerning the deepening of the EMU and the need for the democratization and institutional consolidation of the Eurozone.
