Alternate FM Chountis to participate in the EU Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils (Brussels, 16-17 March 2015)

Alternate Foreign Minister Nikos Chountis will participate on Monday, 16 March, in the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), in Brussels.

The FAC will look at the recent developments in Africa – and in Libya in particular – and at issues concerning migration policy and cooperation with third countries on combating illegal migration and human trafficking.

There will also be a discussion of Eastern Neighbourhood issues, within the framework of the preparations for the Riga Summit Meeting in May.

On Tuesday, 17 March, Mr. Chountis will participate in the meeting of the EU General Affairs Council (GAC), at which there will be a discussion of the European Semester and the inter-institutional relations of the European Union. The GAC will also look at preparations for the 19-20 March meeting of the European Council, on the agenda for which are the issue of the energy union (strengthening energy security, benefits for the internal energy market, and climate diplomacy), the European Semester, the European Union's relations with Russia and Ukraine, and the confronting of the crisis in Libya.
