Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis attended a working luncheon with the Ambassadors of the 26 EU member states. The luncheon was hosted by Aleksandar Sunko, the Ambassador of Croatia, which currently holds the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Mr. Varvitsiotis briefed the EU member-state diplomatic representatives to our country on Greece’s positions on the European perspective of the Western Balkans, enlargement issues, the new Multiannual Financial Framework, Rule of Law, migration, and the Conference on the Future of Europe.
He underscored that Greece supports the Croatian Presidency’s priorities, which, he noted, are key elements of the EU’s Strategic Agenda. He welcomed the fact that enlargement policy is one of the main priorities of the Croatian Presidency, and he referred to the Greek initiative for hosting the Conference on the European perspective of the Western Balkans, which will take place on 24 February, in Thessaloniki.
Finally, regarding the Conference on the Future of Europe, he stressed how important it is for the Parliaments, citizens and civil society of Europe to participate in the common, broad dialogue that is developing, and he concluded by underscoring that Europe must show that it is working in the direction of its citizens’ demands.
