Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis meets with the heads of the Diplomatic Missions of the Visegrad group (7 July 2020)

On the occasion of Poland’s assumption of the presidency of the Visegrad group from July 2020 to July 2021, the chargé d'affaires of the Polish embassy, Tomasz Wiśniewski, hosted a luncheon in honour of Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, which was also attended by the Ambassadors to Athens of the V4 group: Hungarian Ambassador Erik Edgár Haupt, Slovak Ambassador Iveta Hricová, and Czech Ambassador Jakub Karfík.

During the meeting, the Polish charge d’affaires briefly presented to the Alternate Minister the priorities of the Polish presidency of the Visegrad group, noting that Poland looks forward to closer cooperation between Greece and the V4. The discussion that followed revolved around current European affairs, such as the negotiations on the recovery fund and the MFF, migration, and climate change, with special reference to elimination of lignite use and green growth, issues on which the Alternate Minister presented Greece’s positions. He added that “much unites us.”

Finally, the Ambassadors of the Visegrad countries congratulated Greece on its successful response to Covid-19 and noted that Greece is the most popular tourist destination in their countries, even in the current difficult conditions.
