Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis had a courtesy meeting with the new Portuguese Ambassador to Greece, Helena Paiva. During the meeting, they reconfirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations.
They discussed bilateral cooperation and European policy issues, including the two countries’ cooperation ahead of the upcoming MED-7 Summit Meeting (10 September 2020) and the upcoming Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of 2021. Mr. Varvitsiotis expressed his certainty of the success of the Portuguese Presidency, stressing the two countries’ close cooperation in the context of the European Union. He also briefed the Portuguese Ambassador on the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and in particular with regard to Turkey’s violations of international legality.
Mrs. Paiva referred to Portugal’s preparations ahead of its Presidency of the Council of the EU and the measures her country’s government has taken in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
