Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis meets with the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Leen Verbeek (Athens, 02.12.2022)
Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs for European affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, held a meeting today with the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe, Leen Verbeek. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Greek Delegation to the Congress, Mayor of Mykonos Konstantinos Koukas.
Mr. Varvitsiotis confirmed Greece's commitment to the founding principles of the Council of Europe and emphasized the need to defend human rights in local communities in order to avoid the violation of migrants' and workers' rights.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has the task of strengthening democracy at local and regional level in the 46 member states of the Council of Europe. Mr. Verbeek is in Athens to participate in the Summit of Mayors against Antisemitism.
