Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis meets with the Swedish Ambassador, Charlotte Sammelin (Athens, 13 September 2019)The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs today met with the Swedish Ambassador, Charlotte Sammelin.

The talks focused on European issues and the prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two countries. There was particular emphasis on the migration issue, the negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027, and the two countries’ priorities during the term of the new European Commission.

Mr. Varvitsiotis mentioned the Greek side’s pursuit of more funding from the new Multiannual Financial Framework for the migration sector. He also referred to Greece’s positions on the allotment of Cohesion Policy and Common Agricultural Policy resources.

Ms. Sammelin commended the presence of 37 major Swedish enterprises in Greece and underscored that her country wants to develop cooperation with Greece in the sectors of R&D and medical tourism.

The talks took place in a friendly atmosphere and provided the opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the very good level of bilateral relations and the shared desire to further deepen cooperation within the EU.

Finally, Ms. Sammelin said that Mr. Varvitsiotis’ visit to Stockholm will provide the opportunity for substantial consultations between the two countries and open up new prospects for collaboration.
