Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ remarks at the General Assembly of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Institutions (Athens, 28.06.2022)

"At this critical juncture, social partners and the state must come forward with viable proposals and targeted measures based on the good practices of other countries", said Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, addressing today the General Assembly of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Institutions, which is being held in Athens with the participation of the Economic and Social Council of Greece.

In particular, Mr. Varvitsiotis emphasized that in order to safeguard the well-being of our societies, we must first and foremost ensure world peace. He also informed the participants, who represent 71 institutions from Latin American, Asian, African and European countries, that Türkiye is imitating President Putin's revisionist policies, seeking to reshape the map of the region.

The Alternate Minister underscored that in order to ensure world peace, all countries must respect borders and comply with International Law. "Borders are not intended to divide peoples, but rather to define the boundary between national sovereignty and international cooperation. We cannot focus on social and development policies and give hope to the younger generation unless we have this kind of stability", Mr. Varvitsiotis pointedly said. He went on to say there is need to provide the young with tools to start their own businesses, making special reference to the incentives given for the development of Greek start-ups.
