Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ statement on the occasion of a tour of the exhibition of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Greece titled: "40 years in 40 words"… and a stamp "(Athens, 28.01.2022)

Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, attended today the tour of the European Parliament's open-air photo exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of Greece-EU, titled "40 years in 40 words"… and a stamp" which adorns the perimeter fencing of the National Garden.

In his statement, the Alternate Minister underscored that "the 40 years that have passed since the accession of Greece to the then European Economic Community were not untroubled years for either Greece or Europe." However, as he said, "through successive crises, European Greece became stronger and Europe itself gained flesh and blood in the face of challenges it had not even imagined it would face in the past. It has grown, expanded, embraced further policies and today it has become the common home of its 500 million inhabitants ". He went on to say: "For us, who have gone through crises and fought for our participation in the hard core of the European Union, it is our duty not to let the sacrifices go to waste, but to strengthen our voice in Europe as well as the role of Greece in our common family".

"For that reason," he added, "recalling this path is a legacy for the future that it takes hard work, commitment to goals and, above all, a spirit of cooperation with the other member states, with the other citizens of the European Union" with all the institutional bodies of our common edifice, so that Greece can play a leading role and obtain the benefits that it believes it can achieve to the greatest extent possible ".
