
Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis met with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, today, Thursday, June 5.
María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar’s visit follows the assumption of her duties on May 2, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to exchange views ahead of the upcoming expanded informal meeting, which is expected to take place in July.
Mr. Gerapetritis expressed Greece's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and of his Personal Envoy on Cyprus, along with the country's willingness to contribute constructively, in coordination with the Republic of Cyprus, towards achieving a comprehensive, just and viable solution to the Cyprus Issue on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum on the Cyprus Issue and the need to continue the United Nations process with a view to implementing the agreements reached at the informal expanded meeting in Geneva. He emphasized that confidence-building is a necessary condition for the resumption of talks on the basis of the agreed framework under the auspices of the UN.
