Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus Issue (29.07.2026)

We welcome the statements by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, who remains firmly committed to the Good Offices Mission entrusted to him by the United Nations Security Council with a view to achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable solution of the Cyprus Issue, in line with the United Nations parameters.

We also welcome the announcement of an informal meeting in a broader format aimed at the resumption of the negotiations, on the basis of the agreed framework, under the auspices of the United Nations.

Greece, in coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and recognizing the importance of maintaining the momentum that has been built on the Cyprus Issue over the past two years, remains ready to contribute constructively to the success of the informal meeting, while encouraging every effort and confidence-building initiative as a necessary prerequisite for the resumption of talks.

Our steadfast objective remains the settlement of the Cyprus Issue, on the basis of the parameters set by the United Nations Security Council, and the reunification of the island.
