Announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Draft Law on the “Organization and operation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, and regulation of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid issues” (17 February 2021)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Draft Law on “Organization and operation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, and regulation of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid issues” was submitted to Parliament today, 17 February 2021.
The Draft Law is aimed at creating a modern organizational structure that facilitates the effective exercise of foreign policy and the promotion of national interests, given that the demands on the political and economic levels and the new, broader mission of the Ministry, render imperative the reform of the Ministry’s structures and operation.
The new provisions are part of a broader administrative reform which also includes the restructuring of Missions Abroad, simplification /digitalization of the services provided and reorganization of the Diplomatic Academy, which will follow within the year.
The key pillars of the Draft Law include:
- Incorporation of Economic Diplomacy, Public Diplomacy and Greeks Abroad into the core of the Ministry’s activities.
- Modernization of the organizational structure.
- Integration of Structures to upgrade and conserve human resources.
- Restructuring of the administrative support mechanism.
- Streamlining of procedures and reduction of bureaucracy.
- Activation of humanitarian aid tools.
