Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Amanatidis met at the Foreign Ministry today with the Presidential Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots, Fotis Fotiou.
During the meeting, Messrs. Amanatidis and Fotiou explored more effective means of cooperation between the Diasporas of Greece and Cyprus, with the assistance of the State.
Both sides emphasized further actions for the implementation of the Cooperation Programme between the Greek Foreign Ministry’s General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and the Cypriot Foreign Ministry’s Service for Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots, which was signed in October 2013, focusing on the youth of the two countries’ Diasporas.
Mr. Fotiou expressed Cyprus’s desire to assist Greece in its efforts to establish 20 May – believed to be the birthday of Socrates – as the world day of Greek Language and Greek Education.
Finally, Mr. Fotiou extended an invitation to Mr. Amanatidis to visit Cyprus.
