Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas participated yesterday in a High-Level Event on the Minamata Convention on Mercury, which took place on the margins of the 69th UN General Assembly, in New York.
In the framework of the Event, a signing ceremony was held for new countries acceding to the Convention, and a discussion was held on the matter of timely and effective implementation of the Convention.
Greece has already signed the Minamata Convention, which the Hellenic Parliament is expected to ratify. The Convention is aimed at protecting the environment and public health from the harmful effects of mercury.
