Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas represented Greece at the proceedings of the “Egypt-Greece Business Forum” that took place yesterday in Cairo, with the participation of forty Greek entrepreneurs.
In his speech, Mr. Kourkoulas referred to the excellent level of Greek-Egyptian relations, which are founded on a convergence of views regarding all of the major international political challenges, as well as on historical bonds of friendship. He also noted the major opportunities for development of business synergies, stressing that Egypt is a huge market with a growth dynamic.
Yesterday, at the 8th Greek-Egyptian Joint Interministerial Committee (JIC), Mr. Kourkoulas signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the agricultural and scientific sectors, with special reference to aquaculture. He also signed a Memorandum in the sector of labor relations, which regulates the framework for capitalizing on the two countries’ human resources, and a Memorandum of Cooperation in the sector of sports, which concerns participation in international fora and exchange of know-how and security during major sporting events.
On the margins of the JIC, a Memorandum was signed by the Union of Hellenic Chambers and the corresponding Egyptian agency on deepening business cooperation. Moreover, Enterprise Greece signed a Memorandum in the sector of investments, providing for exchange of information on investment potential in both countries, and a Memorandum in the sector of trade exhibitions, which regulates the exchange of business missions and mutual participation in exhibitions in the two countries.
Mr. Kourkoulas also met with International Cooperation Minister Naglaa El Ahwani, with whom he discussed economic cooperation issues, participation of Greek companies in infrastructure projects – particularly the major Suez projects – as well as the potential for synergies in the maritime transport sector. Finally, Mr. Kourkoulas thanked the Egyptian Minister for the efforts to resolve pending issues being faced by Greek investors.
