Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas met at the Foreign Ministry yesterday with the South African Ambassador in Greece, Van Schalkwyk.
The meeting focused on the potential for further strengthening of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Mr. Mardas stressed to Ambassador Schalkwyk the Greek side’s will to increase and boost bilateral trade transactions, while he also called on the South African side to consider the current opportunities for investment in Greece. He highlighted that, following the Hellenic Parliament’s ratification in 2014 of the Economic Cooperation Agreement, it would be appropriate to convene the first Greek-South African Joint Interministerial Committee (JIC), proposing the first half of 2017 as a good time for the meeting, whether in Greece or South Africa.
