Deputy FM T. Quick visits Ethiopia 23-25 February 2017 - Bilateral meetings with the Ethiopian State Minister for Foreign Affairs and African Union Commissioner - Meetings with Greek community

Deputy Foreign Minister Terens Quick carried out a visit to Addis Ababa. He is the first member of a Greek government to visit Ethiopia in 19 years, and 2017 is the 100th anniversary of Greek-Ethiopian diplomatic relations.

Apart from his meetings with the Board and members of the Greek Community, he had bilateral meetings with the Ethiopian Minister of State for foreign policy, Hirut Zemene, and Dr. Anthony Mothae Maruping, the Commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union, which has its headquarters in the Ethiopian capital.

With Ms. Zemene he discussed the whole range of bilateral relations, which are at a very good level. Ms. Zemene requested of Mr. Quick that Greek business activities in her country be encouraged even more and that new horizons for cooperation be opened up in sectors such as tourism -- mainly religious tourism and tourism involving sports, including track, football and basketball, with exchange trips of athletes and teams -- and Civil Aviation, in which the final agreement remains to be signed following the initialling that took place this past December in Nassau.

The Deputy Foreign Minister was accompanied on his trip to Ethiopia by the Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nikolaos Patakias, the Director of his Diplomatic Cabinet, Maya Solomou, and the President of the Greek Community, Dimitris Sykkas.
