Greeks all over the world,
Dear compatriots,
Today is a day of celebration and remembrance for Hellenism. Greeks all around the world commemorate the unequivocal "NO" of our ancestors on October 28, 1940, against the Axis powers’ aggressive expansionism, honoring the memory of Greeks who bravely fought for their homeland. At a critical juncture in modern European history, the Greek nation, as a whole, shouted an unwavering "NO" against authoritarianism and fought for freedom, democracy, and national independence with unprecedented zeal, exceptional self-sacrifice, and genuine national unity.
The anniversary of "NO" reminds us that Hellenism and its ideals, such as freedom, patriotism, independence, democracy, and respect for national traditions, have their roots in our long history. The "NO" of October 28, 1940, encompasses all the fundamental values of Hellenism and simultaneously demonstrates the special weight of national unanimity and unity.
These are the values and ideals that Hellenism has bequeathed to humanity. Today, these same values are sought after in every period of crisis in our broader neighborhood.
Living bearers and propagators of these values abroad are the Diaspora Greeks, a top national asset, who, through their ethos and work, excel in the countries they operate, defend our national interests, contribute to Greece’s global image, and promote the Greek language. The Greek State, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adopts structured policies to support our Diaspora's relations with the Motherland.
Dear compatriots,
We truly honor the fights of our ancestors when we become bearers of the same values and ideals that inspired them. In doing so, we not only become worthy successors to them but we also pave the way for a collective future with robust assurances of success. Freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights, deeply instilled in the consciousness of Greeks, wherever they live in the world, as well as national unity, serve as an infallible compass for our nation at national, European, and international levels.
Long live October 28! Long live our Nation! Many happy returns to all Greeks!
