Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis met at his office today with Austrian Ambassador Hermine Poppeller.
During the meeting the Deputy Minister referred to the Diaspora Hellenism policy axes, making particular reference to the right to vote for Greeks abroad. The Deputy Minister also stressed how important the bicentennial of the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821 is for Greece, with Vienna, the city where Rigas Velestinlis was active, expected to be included in the schedule of events. Finally, Deputy Minister Vlasis praised the efforts of Greece and Austria that led to a successful response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Austrian Ambassador underlined the importance of cooperation between the two states at the highest level, in the context of the participation of Greece and Austria in the Smart Covid-19 Management Group, and referred to the long-standing presence of Greeks in Austria, serving as a bridge of friendship between our two peoples. Finally, Ambassador Poppeller confirmed that Greece is one of the top tourism destinations for Austrians, expressing her belief that this preference will be once again affirmed during this year’s tourist season.
