Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis meets with UK Ambassador Kate Smith

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis today met, in his office, with the UK Ambassador to Greece, Kate Smith.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted the longstanding historical ties between the two countries, referring in particular to the strong presence of the Greek community in the UK as a bridge of friendship between the two peoples. Mr. Vlasis requested Britain’s assistance with problems arising for Greeks due to the UK’s exit from the European Union. Finally, he referred to the scheduling of the events marking the bicentennial of the start of the Greek Revolution, underscoring Great Britain’s vital role in the Struggle for Independence.

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Kate Smith, pointed to the dynamic presence of Greeks in Great Britain and their broad contribution to the country’s social and economic life through innovative initiatives that strengthen and promote entrepreneurship. She also highlighted the British side’s will to achieve a mild Brexit, especially with regard to the rights of citizens, and she stressed the need for further deepening of bilateral relations, with emphasis on cooperation in the sectors of education, culture and religion.
