
During his visit to Germany, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yannis Loverdos sent a message of support from the Greek State to the Greek Diaspora in Germany and the strengthening of cooperation with the Diaspora, on the occasion of his participation in the "Stuttgart 2025 Parade".
The parade, which took place on Saturday, May 3, in the presence of a National Guard detachment, was organized by the Greek community as part of the celebrations for the history of Hellenism and the friendship between Greeks and Germans. Following the parade, the Deputy Minister attended a litany at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Reutlingen. Earlier that day, he visited the General High School of Stuttgart and held a series of meetings with representatives of diaspora organizations in Baden-Württemberg. During these meetings, he highlighted the critical role of the Diaspora in preserving and strengthening Greek-German relations.
On Friday, May 2, the Deputy Minister attended the opening of the exhibition "In the Name of Freedom – Stuttgart and the Greek Revolution of 1821", which is hosted at the Stuttgart Museum and showcases the contribution of German Philhellenes to the 1821 struggle. Later, he met with the Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr. Frank Nopper, as part of a bilateral cooperation effort.
On Sunday, May 4, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp, the Deputy Minister participated in a commemorative event and laid a wreath.
He then travelled to Munich, where he met with members of the Greek diaspora at the Holy Church of All Saints. During his speech, he presented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad 2024-2027, as well as initiatives to enhance consular services, emphasizing the importance of continuous, meaningful, and two-way communication with Greeks abroad. In order to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the Deputy Minister also met with Florian Hahn, a member of the Bavarian Parliament. As part of his visit, he also went to the Ottobrunn community, where he visited the Museum of King Otto of Greece.
The Deputy Minister's program concluded on Monday with successive meetings with the Inspector General of the Bavarian Police, Mr. Markus Trebes, and the Minister of the Interior of the Bavarian Government, Mr. Joachim Herrmann. During their talks, the excellent level of Greek-German relations was confirmed and possibilities for further cooperation in areas of mutual interest were explored. The final part of the visit included a tour of the Munich Glyptothek and the tombs of Otto and Amalia.
