On Wednesday, 24 September, in New York, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos attended the UN Security Council meeting on the adoption of a resolution on foreign terrorist fighters.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the United States, Barak Obama, as the U.S. holds the presidency of the Security Council this month.
During the meeting, the Security Council unanimously adopted the legally binding Resolution 2178/2014, according to which UN member states must take measures to block the recruitment, organization, financing, arming and transport of foreign terrorist fighters, and adopt national legislation that will allow for the prosecution of any such fighters who attempt to enter or transit their territory.
