Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos addressed today’s EU-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Brussels, presenting the recent economic, institutional and political developments in the European Union.
On the margins of the meeting, Mr. Venizelos had a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin, to whom he conveyed the Greek people’s deep condolences at the tragic crash of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft in eastern Ukraine. Messrs. Venizelos and Zainudin also discussed ways to further develop bilateral cooperation, mainly in the sectors of trade, tourism and shipping.
Mr. Venizelos then met with Singaporean Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, competent for European policy issues, Grace Fu, with whom he discussed ways to expand Greek-Singaporean bilateral relations.
Finally, Mr. Venizelos talked to both Ministers about the prospect of signing an initial text that will serve as the legal foundation for further cooperation on the bilateral level – as well as for cooperation in the shipping sector, due to the special role played by the Greek shipping community on a global level – and about the importance that has been taken on by the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki.
