Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement on arrival at the Ministerial Meeting between the member states of the European Union and the Arab League, which is taking place within the framework of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union:
“The European Union’s Ministerial Meeting with the member states of the Arab League is being held here today, at Zappeion, within the framework of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Our aim is to strengthen the ties between Europe and the Arab world, which is a fundamental strategic partner for European policy – particularly for European policy on our Southern Neighbourhood.
The Arab world is going through a very difficult time, and Europe has a duty to help towards the reconstruction of all the Arab countries and the cultivation of a climate of security, stability and peace, and a prospect for the prosperity of all the region’s peoples.”
