Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos made the following statement on the reaching of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip:
“Greece welcomes the agreement reached on the initiation of a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and expresses the hope that this will be a long-term ceasefire that creates conditions allowing for the speedy reconstruction of Gaza, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the reopening of the peace process.
In particular, we congratulate Egyptian diplomacy on its tireless efforts to achieve this ceasefire, which will end the bloodshed and contribute to regional stability.
The Greek government reiterates its readiness to treat wounded, particularly children, and to contribute in any possible way to the reconstruction of Gaza, following the recent announcement of the provision of €500,000, through the UNRWA, to cover food needs and repairs to the water supply network.”
