Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding the desecration of the Jewish cemetery of Larissa:
“I express my indignation, anger and abhorrence at the desecration of the Jewish cemetery of Larissa. This brutal insult to the memory of our Greek Jewish fellow citizens is an unacceptable and incomprehensible criminal act that the Greek government condemns absolutely and unequivocally.
The competent Greek authorities are making every effort to arrest the perpetrators of this act of desecration that is an affront to the collective memory and conscience of the whole of Greek society. The Greek government will continue to show zero tolerance for any effort to revive anti-Semitism and for any racist or xenophobic act of violence.”
