Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding the meeting of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with Pope Francis, in Jerusalem:
“The meeting of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with Pope Francis, in Jerusalem, where they will be received by Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between their predecessors, points up the importance of the ecumenical dialogue and the role that the Churches can and must play in reconciliation and peace during the very turbulent and dangerous time we are living through at present. From our standpoint, it must also be added that this meeting points up the role and the truly ecumenical importance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s initiatives.”
