Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos had successive phone talks today, Tuesday, 15 May, with his counterparts in Israel, Avigdor Lieberman; Palestine, Riyad Al Malki; and Egypt, Sameh Shoukry regarding the situation prevailing in the Middle East.
Mr. Venizelos expressed Greece’s support for the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire, which, as he stressed, is the only practical recourse at this time.
Mr. Venizelos congratulated his Egyptian counterpart on this specific initiative and assured him of Greece’s readiness to provide its good offices for the purpose of de-escalating the tension and restoring the channels of communication and the peace process between Israel and Palestine.
