Under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, an interministerial meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry today regarding the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and the security conditions of the Ukrainian’s of Greek origin residing on either side of the line of hostilities in Ukraine’s eastern provinces.
The meeting looked at matters concerning the sending of humanitarian aid to the civilian population, the provision of consular assistance to Greek Ukrainians, and the operation of Greece’s Consulate General in Mariupol.
It was decided, among other things, to immediately set up a crisis management team, which, on the instructions of the Foreign Minister, is responsible for coordinating the drawing up of a plan for the potential evacuation of citizens of Greek origin, in case of further escalation of clashes and deterioration of the security situation in eastern Ukraine and in the Mariupol area in particular.
