Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias met in Budapest today with the Foreign Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, on the margins of the pentalateral Meeting on energy policy issues between Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Hungary and FYROM.
Messrs. Kotzias and Poposki discussed issues concerning energy and cross-border cooperation between the two countries, as well as issues of regional interest.
Foreign Minister Kotzias expressed his support for the negotiations being carried out on the name issue under the direction of the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy, Matthew Nimetz, and he reiterated Greece’s longstanding positions with regard to FYROM’s European and Euroatlantic perspective.
During the meeting, there was an initial discussion of the prospect of the adoption of Confidence Building Measures by the two sides, a development that could lead to the improvement of bilateral relations and bolster the efforts towards finding a mutually acceptable solution on the name issue.
