Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias met today in New York City, on the margins of the UN General Assembly, with the Foreign Minister of Argentina, Hector Marcos Timerman.
The two Minister looked at ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and they discussed the developments in the Middle East and North Africa, with emphasis on the Syrian crisis and its repercussions for the refugee and migration crisis.
Mr. Timerman briefed Mr. Kotzias on the debt issue and the relevant draft resolution submitted recently to the UN General Assembly, making special reference to the issue of the vulture funds that hold 6% of Argentina’s debt. He also expressed the certainty that Greece will mount a struggle similar to Argentina’s to confront the debt issue, participating in the meeting scheduled for this December, at which the preparation of the next resolution will be discussed.
Mr. Kotzias assured his counterpart that the Greek government has taken the political decision to support the new draft resolution and will participate in the December meeting.
